Prove your humanity

Driving down Fredericksburg Rd. on my way to Rise Up, a colorful rack of clothing caught my eye, prompting me to pull over and explore the area. The sudden stop was the beginning of an afternoon of local discoveries.

Upon entering Pink Dreams Vintage, home to said colorful rack of clothing, I immediately felt immersed in a dreamy, nostalgic atmosphere. A Y2K fantasy, Pink Dreams Vintage is brimming with an eclectic mix of clothing racks, home decor from another era, and a wide array of accessories. Located at 726 Fredericksburg Rd., Pink Dreams gives vibrant, early-2000s-inspired vibes and is adorned with lush greenery, creating a refreshing atmosphere that perfectly complements its lively aesthetic.

Following another vintage clothing rack a few doors down led me to a vinyl paradise, Friends of Sound Records. Located at 700 Fredericksburg Rd., Friends of Sounds opened in 2016 and recently merged with vintage brand WearHouse, creating a unique cultural experience that blends fashion and music. Self Surrender, a local vintage brand that reimagines and repurposes clothing, is also located within the shop.

Just as sustainable fashion emphasizes timeless, high-quality pieces that reduce environmental impact, the resurgence of vinyl in music promotes a more intentional, tangible connection to sound, cutting down on the waste of fast consumption. Together Friends of Sound Records, WearHouse and Self Surrender cultivate a mindful culture that values craftsmanship and authenticity.

In the midst of these two vintage spots sits local tattoo studio, Honeygrove. Owned by artist Hailey Lopez, Honeygrove Tattoo Studio is not only a tattoo parlor but also a vibrant gallery for local art. The studio showcases work from other local artists, intertwining tattoo art with an appreciation for San Antonio’s creative community.

Immerse yourself in San Antonio’s vibrant creative scene by exploring Pink Dreams Vintage, Wearhouse, Friends of Sound, and Honeygrove. Shopping local not only supports your community’s economy but also fosters a unique sense of connection and creativity. By choosing local businesses, you help preserve the character of your neighborhood, encourage entrepreneurship, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
