As the weather begins to cool (hopefully), my mind is set on a west Texas getaway. Just me, a hemp joint, and a night under the stars. A cool breeze blowing the fire just a bit…
Throughout the past few years, I’ve come across some amazing, off-the-grid, glamping style getaways in Texas. Whether you’re traveling by yourself or with some close friends, here are 5 spots you should definitely check out.
El Cosmico in Marfa
Oh, Marfa, the first place in Texas to truly steal my heart. Located 6.5 hours from San Antonio, Marfa tempts you to slow down and become one with nature, one with the desert. 🌵 Whenever I venture to this badass town I stay at El Cosmico which features luxury teepees, yurts, trailers + old school camping sites. Along with sleeping under the stars, my favorite part of El Cosmico is bathing in their outdoor bathhouses. ‘Tis a fairyland place, my friends.
Flophouze Hotel in Round Top
Located only two hours away, Flophouze in Round Top features six repurposed + modernized shipping containers. Each tiny home comes with a hammock, private patio, fire pit with chairs, modern record player and coffee. The refurbished shipping container I stayed in had three beds – one queen and one bunk bed. I wish I had more friends! 😜
Along with lounging on the hammock and enjoying music I’d never heard before, I spent my evening chilling in the shipping container pool turned hot tub during winter months.
Basecamp in Terlingua
When these incredible bubble homes popped up on my Instagram feed earlier this year, I immediately reached out to find out how I could stay there. Basecamp Terlingua, located on the outskirts of Big Bend National Park, features luxury teepees, lotus tents, and bubble homes! Entering the bubble home was a magical experience in itself and once the stars began to peek through the black blanket of sky, wow. You can literally lay in bed and watch the moon and stars above. During the day, venture out to Big Bend National Park because ’tis a sight to see. I recommend Santa Elena Canyon if you’re only visiting for a day.
Rancho Pillow in Round Top
Rancho Pillow, a unique 20-acre compound nestled in Round Top, was an amazing adventure. Jacqueline and I grabbed our friend Jessica Giesey, an amazing photographer here in San Antonio who photographed the photos above, for a photoshoot on their beautiful property. We stayed in yet another teepee and the interior was truly a work of art. From the painted walls to the hanging lights, I could lounge there all day with just some music and a sketchbook. Rancho Pillow features an outdoor bathhouse, heated saltwater wading pool, and a poetry library in the barn.
Medina Highpoint Resort
An hour and a half away from San Antonio rests a secret getaway where hilltops surround you and city noise is replaced with chirping birds and gentle winds. Medina Highpoint Resort, located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country alongside Robertson Creek, features traditional camping, bunkhouses and a variety of cabin styles. We stayed in one of the View Cabins overlooking the most beautiful part of the resort. We spent our hours exploring the trails within the resort, lounging in the Medina River and stargazing. Along with serene views, Medina Highpoint houses an onsite restaurant, infinity pool, and beer and wine garden.
So, where are you going? xx
