I haven’t been to Pearl since the C0VID outbreak of 2020, but when an invitation to indulge in the Bottling Department’s newest restaurant – Mi Roti – came across my inbox, I decided to venture out. Safely, of course. Thankfully the Bottling Department at the Pearl was completely sanitized, they offered masks at the door, and all tables and chairs have been removed. If you’d like, you can dine outdoors on the patio or the Pearl Park.

By chef and owner Nicola Blaque of the popular San Antonio spot, Jerk Shack, Mi Roti combines inspiration from the West Indies and the Caribbean. Chef Lionel “Butch” Blache also joins Blaque in the kitchen.

Mi Roti offers a convenient “build your own” roti menu. First you decide if you’d like a bowl or a roti wrap. Roti refers to both the flat-bread itself as well as the popular street food item, in which the roti is folded around a savory filling in the form of a wrap. If you go for the bowl, make sure to add a roti on the side!

Next up, protein. Choose from spicy creamy coconut spinach, curry chickpeas + potatoes, pepper shrimp, jerk chicken, and more. Rice options include coconut rice, cilantro-lime rice, and brown rice. Next, toppings. choose from numerous options including pickled red onion, shredded cabbage, cilantro, jalapeños, green onions, and more. End your bowl or wrap with mango chutney, avocado creme, hot pepper, or chimichurri sauce.

I absolutely loved my bowl and def wish I had one waiting for me after the completion of this blog! After a bit of internal debate, I ordered the spicy creamy coconut spinach (amazing) bowl with coconut rice (amazing) and topped off with jalapeños, tomato slices, pickled red onions (a must), shredded cabbage and green onion. You can choose up to two sauces so I went with the mango chutney + avocado creme. Next time I will just order the mango chutney because it was 🔥. The Caribbean creme caramel is a must! I feel it would pair perfectly with a latte from Local.

Mi Roti offerings will be available to enjoy on the Bottling Department’s patio or for carryout. Mi Roti is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Are you excited to indulge in some Caribbean cuisine?
