Old school candy in glass jars, chocolate bars topped with potato chips and spicy takes on chocolate – Chocollazo doesn’t fall under the traditional candy shops we know. Chocollazo, located at 4013 Broadway, opened its doors last week and offers an array of gourmet chocolate treasures. Warning: the following pictures will cause an intense desire for all things chocolate and sweet.
When we walked into the doors of Chocollazo, we were greeted by a gorgeous black chandelier, pristine white walls and a smiling owner, Mary Collazo. Three years ago, Mary opened a food truck – the Chocollazo Chocolate Trolley – followed by a quaint shop located inside Lackland Airforce Bases. With the grand opening of its flagship store on Broadway, chocolate connoisseurs and unite under one roof.
As we walked around the shop, a carrot cake cheesecake caught our eye. Two desserts in one! On top of the beautifully decorated carrot cake cheesecake was a pipette filled with jalapeño jam. Mary let us know she didn’t want to force the spice onto anyone, but there was always an option to add a kick to your cake. If you follow us on Snapchat at TwentySA, you saw that we covered half of our treat in the fiery jam. Ah-mazing.
Visit Chocollazo on Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.!
