On East Houston street, just past Highway 281, Dignowity Meats has claimed its home since January of last year. This sandwich shop, which says to “pay homage to classic East coast deli and Midwest smokehouse”, is favorite among those who are lucky enough to know about it. If you are a meat lover, run, don’t walk to taste all the mouthwatering entrees and sides.
I tried the Burnt End Melt, after being persuaded that this customer favorite was the best of both worlds because it comes loaded with smoked brisket as well as mac and cheese. It is also served on ciabatta bread with pear, cheddar, and barbecue sauce. Another favorite is the Pit Beef, which features smoked beef round, house Au Jus, cheddar, house giardiniera, and horseradish mayo. This one is perfect for those who like a little more spice to their meals.
Including a side is a must for these meals when you can choose between something like the sharp cheddar mac with smoked bacon or the cold pasta and arugula salad, which I tried. The pasta came with dried cranberries, feta, almonds, olive relish, and a house vinaigrette. Dignowity meats is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as dinner Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.. For dinner they open up the bar around back and have plenty of beer and wine to enjoy with your meal.
The craft beer garden offers daily happy hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and daily bar specials, including $1 off all San Antonio beers and wine by the glass. Thursdays are a great day to visit if you are looking for something fun to do because Dignowity Meats hosts a trivia night at 7:30 p.m. with $80 in prizes for the top three teams. Next time you are craving a little barbecue or wanting to enjoy the awesome weather, stop by Dignowity Meats for more flavorful sandwiches than you can imagine. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
