This Monday Jacqueline, Karissa and I attended a late night fall tasting at Steel City Pops. As I walked towards the Southtown popsicle shop I realized I had never been to a popsicle tasting and wondering what it would include. Perhaps we’d be handed our favorite type of popsicles from an extensive list? Or maybe we’d go through the line and try a couple new creations? I was wrong on every level and it was amazing.
Steel City Pops transformed into a sit down restaurant complete with wine, beer and coffee. We each had our designated spot with a menu stating all 16 popsicles we would be sampling that evening. Yup, 16 pops! We made it through, don’t worry.
Each pop came out on a tray that was embellished with the name of the pop along with the ingredients. The presentation of the pops and the entire event left me in awe. I’ve attended numerous media events but none quite as exquisite and unexpected as this.
Shall we talk pops now? The fruity pops came out first. Every fruit pop is made with real, fresh fruit and sweetened with organic cane sugar. My favorites include the Arnold Palmer, Cranberry Orange (with organic cranberries from a local farm! Also pictured above), Champagne White Tea and Strawberry Fig. I believe Strawberry Fig was the number one pop for all three of us.
Before the creamy pops – made with real cream and milk that come form a local dairy provider – came out, we each received a latte or cappuccino to get ready to switch over to the much more decadent flavors. I love drinking coffee at 11 p.m. at events. It feels fancy to me. It feels happy. Exciting.
Let’s talk about the Maple Bacon Bourbon pop which is pictured above with a shot of bourbon on the side! I believe every shot of bourbon was gone by the end of the night. The MBB pop is made with whole milk, cream, vanilla bean, maple syrup, Ranger Creek Texas bourbon and smoked bacon.
Other creamy pops that made my absolute fav list are the pumpkin (made with real pumpkin!) and the carrot cake, surprisingly. Oh the butter pecan was great as well and if you’re looking for a cheesecake flavor, go with the buttermilk and dip it in dark chocolate. Yes!!
Along with tasting pops in their original form, we ended the night with extravagant creations. First up was the toasted marshmallow (burnt marshmallows, whole milk, heavy cream, organic cane sugar) dipped in organic milk chocolate, dredged in house-made graham crackers and drizzled with organic caramel.
The final pop of the night was the mocha caramel crunch – a coffee pop dipped in organic dark chocolate, dredged in dark chocolate cookie crumbs and drizzled with organic caramel. We all walked away quite full that Monday evening, but 100% satisfied.
With so many amazing flavors to choose from, which one is your favorite?
