Happy hour is a little phrase that brings joy to the ears, taste buds, and wallet! It is an experience that is greatly overlooked and underrated. Many restaurants and bars have drink deals across the city, but we wanted to find the best ones in downtown San Antonio.
Tacos and Tequila, a personal favorite of mine, is located on Broadway just outside of Pearl. Delicious $4 house margaritas, sangrias, wells, mojitos, and $1.50 tacos are the main attraction at this happy hour. Grab this deal Sunday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. T&T’s tacos are served with just the meat or beans and the tortilla. You then are welcome to put on your own taco toppings (my favorite is the pickled onions) at the taco bar! It makes me feel like I’m the co-chef by dressing my taco in salsa and peppers and onions. If you’re looking for deals, Acenar’s bar is your place to go. With specials every day of the week and even more discounts on Downtown Tuesday, there is not much that beats an Acenar happy hour. From 3 to 6 p.m. any and every day of the week, you can enjoy $5 platitos (yum, what a deal!), $5 cocktails, $4 wells, and on Tuesdays, half-off appetizers and $2 tacos. Plus, Acenar is located right on the River Walk so you can sit on the patio and have a great view of our gorgeous river.
From sake to salmon rolls, Sushi Zushi Downtown has a spicy good happy hour menu every day of the week! Signature cocktails, sake, beer, wine, and of course, rolls are on the discounted menu from 3 to 7 p.m.
Monday through Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. , The Esquire Tavern features $1 off beers, $3 off cocktails and wines, and $3 snacks such as curried chicken wings and green eggs and ham nachos. The infamous tavern makes its ginger beer in-house, so of course I had to try the moscow mule (pictured above); it was delicious.
Ocho, connected to the Havana Hotel, is a bright and blue dining area that overlooks the San Antonio River Walk. On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., you can snag Ocho’s great happy hour deals such as a huitlacoche quesadilla for $5 or a Havana margarita for $6.
