Hot Joy has been a staple on S. Alamo since opening in 2013. We frequent the adorable red and green building not only for the food and drinks, but the private booths that make you feel right at home. We find this to be an ideal setting for happy hour! If you’re looking for a unique menu to surprise your taste buds, and a little bit of privacy, head over to happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. everyday.
Edamame is common amongst Asian cuisine menus, but Hot Joy takes it up a notch with tōgarashi spice and miso honey butter. After one bite of the miso honey butter, it immediately became a staple in my diet.
Who doesn’t love tator tots, especially after a long day? Hot Joy switches up the potato world with chutney, tikka masala sauce, shallots, tomatoes and Indian snack mix.
If you’re a fan of cucumbers like me, make sure to order the smashed cucumbers with lime chutney, coco milk, mint, chili oil and crispy garlic. My main concern was that the added ingredients and “smashing” may cause the cucumbers to become too soft, but luckily the crunch stays in tact!
Now for these bad boys – lemon pepper curry wings topped with cilantro crema, green onions and crispy garlic. Instead of soaking the wings until they become a soft consistency, Hot Joy tops off the crispy, curry wings with its distinct sauce.
It wouldn’t be happy hour without a few cocktails! This gorgeous glass features the Sake To Me, a tasty combination of cucumber, Thai basil, vodka, sake and lime. The Sake To Me, along with a whole new cocktail menu, will be available at the end of the month.
Did we mention everything is under $7? Oh yeah, cheers to Hot Joy.
