Jacqueline and I received an early Christmas gift this year. Last weekend, we grabbed our overnight bags and headed down to Pearl for our first stay at Hotel Emma! Snacks at Larder, reading in the library, supper at Supper, breakfast in bed, and a second breakfast at Supper! If you’re looking for one place to staycation in 2016, Hotel Emma is it.
Instead of walking into the lobby of Hotel Emma as we usually do when we come to gaze upon the gorgeous interior, we went straight to the reservation desk and eagerly awaited for our room key. Once we had our golden ticket in hand, we took the stairs up to the sixth floor (you have to fit in exercise sometime!) and opened the magical door with the initials H.E.
I love walking into hotel rooms. The moment before you unlock the door and walk into your temporary home is a time I will forever cherish. Before I could run to the bed, a member from the Emma staff asked if we wanted our complimentary margaritas. Yes! Hotel Emma serves up classic margaritas when you check-in.
Let’s talk about the bathroom for a second. I have never been more comfortable in a hotel bathroom, and I never knew what they were missing. Well, many hotel bathrooms are missing hooks, lots of hooks. Jacqueline and I were able to hang our bags, our clothing for the next day, and keep everything organized. Also, the extra large, walk in shower had the perfect water pressure, and the sink had an extra shelf under the mirror to put all of night time goods. Cleaning up and heading out in the morning was a breeze.
Larder, an in-hotel grocery store, carries meat, cheeses, fine provisions, wine, beer, baked goods, flowers and so much more. After picking up a coffee, cheddar and cranberry scone, and muffin, Jacqueline and I spent some much needed quiet time in Hotel Emma’s extraordinary library before heading to Supper.
Hotel Emma truly makes you feel comfortable. The walls, the decor, the atmosphere, cause you to melt into a chair for a while and read a book, enjoy a cocktail and just be in the moment. When morning came, coffee awaited at the door. I easily could’ve spent a whole afternoon in bed watching television and drinking coffee, but my stomach had other plans. Supper at Supper was delicious, but did not compare to breakfast at Supper. I took a seat facing the greenery outside and enjoyed lemon ricotta pancakes with pine nuts and raspberries, smoked salmon and a cappuccino. The pancakes are hands down on our list of favorite pancakes ever. Ah! So good.
It’s time for your own staycation, or vacation, if you reside outside of San Antonio. Happy days, evenings and mornings at Hotel Emma await.
