Located in Southtown, Ruby City is San Antonio’s newest contemporary art museum. The 14,000 square foot, two-story building houses both local and internationally-acclaimed artists and opened fall 2019.

Ruby City has been on my radar since it’s opening at 150 Camp Street. The crimson building itself is a work of art! The new museum is free to the public and currently features numerous exhibits ranging from iron sculptures to Florida wildfire charcoal. My personal favorite was a collection by Isaac Julien: Stones Against Diamonds. The piece features 5 portrait monitors with surround sound.

Located across the street from Ruby City is Chris Park. Lush foliage aligns the walkways, creating a path to many visual art pieces within the greenery. A smaller museum, Ruby City studio, resides within the park. This gorgeous oasis was quite a surprise given the surrounding, concrete city. A breath of fresh air, indeed.

Ruby City + Studio is open (and free!) Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Are you excited to visit?
