Since the last mural roundup, a lot has changed but luckily colorful works of art continue to dress up the streets of San Antonio. Let’s go on a Wall Crawl to our current favorites!

The Artisan

The Artisan: 1103A S. Presa St.

Southtown is known as a center for the arts with First Friday and Second Saturday events each month. If you’re in the neighborhood you’ll also find The Artisan, a local retail and wholesale shop stocking everything from clothing to art and home decor. Angélica Leandra painted this colorful Otomi mural on the exterior of the building, paying tribute to Mexican folk art and traditional embroidery designs.

Essex

Essex Modern City: 51 Essex St.

Essex Modern City continues to invite local and visiting artists to share their work on a large scale. Spend Second Saturdays at Essex for live art, music, and food trucks. The grounds are also open to visitors weekdays before 5 p.m. But never fear, the mural pictured above by Artist Kirileigh Jones of California is accessible from the sidewalk. Plus there’s plenty of parking on the adjacent street.

Claudia Patricia Gomez Gonzalez: 1811 S. Laredo St.

Our roundup pays homage to the culturally significant murals of the West Side of San Antonio. The neighborhood alone has so many vibrant works of public art that deserves to be seen. San Anto Cultural Arts, along with artists Ana Laura Hernandez and Rys Munro, honor Claudia Patricia Gomez Gonzalez in this mural. The image is meant to showcase the strength of women while remembering this 20 year-old woman killed at the Texas/Mexico border. Visitors tip: there are nearby train tracks, be sure to walk with caution!

South Flores

Cinturón de Asteroides #3: 1502 S. Flores St.

Find a bit of space on South Flores. This colorful belt of asteroids by Artist Ernesto Ibanez brightens up the intersection in technicolor. Stop into Southtown Juice after you snap a photo!

La Gloria

La Gloria: 100 E Grayson St.

Tacos, margaritas and murals? Sign me up! Visit La Gloria at the Pearl to find this colorful depiction of Mexican culinary traditions. Pearl offers free parking in their lots and garage. You can expect larger crowds on the property during weekend Farmers Market and dinner time, but don’t worry this mural faces Grayson Street so oncoming foot traffic shouldn’t affect your photo op.

Little Death

Little Death: 2327 N St Marys St.

Wine not pose with a glass of rosè and this impressive mural? Artist Rudy Marco Harerea painted the ENTIRE exterior of Little Death wine bar; you certainly won’t miss it driving down St Mary’s Strip. Pro tip: if you’re camera shy, visit in the mornings for less traffic and onlookers. Otherwise, snap away!

Los Otros Mural

Local Music: N. St Marys Street / E. French Place (near 2623 N St Marys St.)

This larger than life picture showcases the St Mary’s strip’s vibrant local music scene. Visit this Los Otros piece sponsored by Google Fiber, and you’ll (literally) be steps away from the next two murals on our list. Parking situation: there’s plenty of street parking during the day!

Fiesta: N. St Marys Street / E. French Place (near 2623 N St Marys St.)

April is San Antonio’s favorite time of year because of Fiesta! Feel the spirit year round with this Los Otros mural commissioned by Red Bull. Fun fact the faces featured are real people from a photo contest!

SA Street Art Initiative

SA Street Art Initiative Phase 2 : 414 E. French Place

San Antonio Street Art Initiative brings even more art to The Strip with their second batch of murals. As they create the largest outdoor gallery in Texas, you’ll find murals ranging from George Strait to tacos. Bring your walking shoes and find the others on N St Marys St. with this online map.

Feliz Modern

Feliz Modern: 110 W. Olmos Dr.

Our favorite local gift shop brings fun and art to our lives! You’ll 100% find something to buy inside this neighborhood store, but don’t forget to take a minute to appreciate this intricate Otomi-inspired, window mural.

N St Marys St

As always, there are certainly WAY more murals in San Antonio! To see new locations and photo spots before they hit the blog you can visit my instagram, @Kwissyriss, and the hashtag #SanAntonioWallCrawl. Which mural are you most excited to visit? Would you like to see more?
