On this day in August, the year of the pandemic, I’m quickly running out of socially-distant activities to keep me sane. This edition of San Antonio Wall Crawl is a little different. You can easily drive by these murals, enjoy time away from home, and be safe; I hope these artworks and bright colors bring sunshine to your day no matter how you choose to visit them—whether it be digitally on this blog, or in person. All of the photos taken since March have been taken while wearing a mask and maintaining social distance.

Baby Taco Garage
8403 Broadway St.
Located behind Baby Taco Garage, you can access this mural by entering the Taco Garage parking lot. At the time of publication, both restaurants are closed daily between 2 to 5 p.m. if you’d like to avoid restaurant-goers or plan a takeout order while you’re in the neighborhood.

San Antonio Postcard
1149 W. Hildebrand Ave.
Alamo Candy recently opened their huge store on Hildebrand, near I-10, and has commissioned two murals on the side of their building by Alan Calvo. With a parking lot and plenty of space in front of this mural, it’s easy to stop for a quick picture.

On the right side of the Alamo Candy building is a massive tribute to Tejano star Selena Quintanilla also painted by Alan Calvo. The candy store is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. if you prefer to visit outside business hours.

Loteria
2811 N. St. Mary’s St.
Located on the side of Eternal Courage Tattoo, you’ll exclaim “Loteria” when you see this wall. Painted as part of San Antonio Street Art’s Phase Two by Kelly Edwards and Sloke, there’s plenty of nearby street parking to snap a photo.

Take a closer look at this mural by Artist Matt Tumlinson and get a real taste of San Antonio culture. With smaller images in each letter, you’ll find local icons and favorites to make you smile and think of home. Find it located on the side of The Lonesome Rose facing West Grayson Street.

Opt for Optimism
125 W. Grayson St.
The world could use more optimism in times like these. This mural created by Los Otros is located near the Pearl on the corner of West Grayson Street and East Euclid Avenue and is a great reminder to be optimistic when times get tough.

Social Spot
930 Broadway St.
I can’t wait to take styled photos at this mural! Located on the side of Social Spot, this wall was painted by Alan Calvo, the same artist behind the two Alamo Candy murals previously listed.

San Antonio Museum of Art
200 W. Jones Ave.
Rounding out the list, you’ll find yourself just north of Downtown at San Antonio Museum of Art. Located in the museum’s parking lot, this wall is an art installation by Gary Sweeney.
