Coffee, coffee, coffee. We love coffee! If you’ve never had a cold brew coffee then you’re missing out. Cold Brew refers to the process of seeping coffee grounds in room temperature or cold water for a long period of time. It is not to be confused with iced coffee, which is brewed hot, then chilled by pouring over or adding ice. The flavors are different, with cold brew having a stronger, bolder taste.
The first cold brew I ever had was about seven years ago and I only ordered it because my sister was drinking one. I’ll admit it, my first sip was sort of sour tasting – it is an acquired taste for some – but eventually I fell in love. Cold brew has less acidity than regular coffee and much more flavor without the bitterness. Being the huge coffee lover that I am, I went all around SA to find the 5 best cold brews out there, and this is what I came up with (not in any particular order).
Cuppencake
Cuppencake is so close to our office it’s dangerous. It’s cold brew is killer and may we suggest pairing it with a warm cinnamon roll? They’re huge and amazing.
Local Coffee
With four locations throughout San Antonio including Broadway, Pearl, Stone Oak and the newest spot at Medical Center, you can’t pass up this cold brew. Local pours it from tap (how cool!) so you know they’re the real deal. Try it with a little vanilla flavor and cream for a little sweetness.
CommonWealth Coffee House
Don’t be deceived by the cuteness of this coffee house. The cold brew is strong and chilled, just like it should be. Stop in for lunch and enjoy one of CommonWealth’s rockin’ sandwiches (my favorite is the Tarragon Salad Croissant).
Rosella
Rosella’s cold brew has the perfect combination of sweet and coffee tastes, plus, they have a super neat upstairs seating area that overlooks the rest of the coffee shop. I like to sit upstairs with a cold brew and an order of Green Apple Toast… yum!
Revoluction Coffee + Juice
Revoluction is one of my favorite coffee shops because there is a variety of healthy and yummy drinks and snack to choose from. But of course, the cold brew is my go-to. Not only does its cold brew taste awesome, but it comes in this neat, old-fashioned-looking bottle.
Do yourself a favor and go try one of these cold brews… or all of them, it’s up to you.
