Take a trip to the desert. Sand, cacti and veal tacos with haberno salsa. Toro Taco Bar, located at 114 Brooklyn Ave. near Hays Street Bridge, is San Antonio’s hottest new taco joint. Park right outside Toro, take a seat under an umbrella and relax – it’s time to break out the queso!
When we first glanced at the menu, beer and tacos immediately caught our eye, but Toro Taco Bar doesn’t serve up just any bean and cheese tacos. The menu consists of unique combinations of flavors including pork, pickled veggies, cabbage with queso blanco, and smoked cod, pickled veggies, cabbage, cilantro topped with Srircha mayonnaise. Another taco combo we loved was the lamb picadillo with tomatoes, scallions and queso blanco.
After eating our tacos, we found ourselves still hungry for more Mexican food. Queso and frito pie sounded like the perfect dessert. Toro Taco Bar also features mango, papaya, guava, cream and piloncillo (Mexican brown sugar) buñuelos if you’re looking for a sweet treat.
With a view of downtown San Antonio in front of you and a cool breeze blowing by, Toro Taco Bar provides a great atmosphere to sit back and enjoy good food with good friends. Toro Taco Bar is open from 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily with happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Oh yeah, we can’t forget about the reverse happy hour Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to close. Cheers!
