Looking for a new, healthy restaurant? Señor Veggie, located at 620 S. Presa St. in Southtown, was recently named “Best Place To Indulge Veggie Cravings” in the San Antonio Current’s Best of San Antonio issue. The bright orange building and friendly staff made it clear why Señor Veggie is a San Antonio favorite for vegetarian food.
I tried the good karma bowl, a beautifully displayed dish of kale, sprouts, quinoa, black beans and tempeh – a traditional soy product. The set up was so visually appealing that I didn’t want to eat it, but was oh so satisfied when I did. Alyssa had the herb falafel wrap, filled with hummus, lettuce, tomato cucumber salad and tahini, with crisp waffle chips on the side. I asked for a bite, but she never responded.
After looking over the menu for a second time, we quickly realized we’d have to return when we saw the eggplant torta – crispy eggplant, black beans, pico de gallo and garlic ranch. Yes! The broccoli stir fry and portabella fajitas looked amazing as well.
Of course, dining at Señor Veggie would not be complete without its homemade desserts. We couldn’t resist – and didn’t try to resist – a vegan, Oreo donut. The oreo donut was as good as it sounds. My only regret is not getting one for the road.
