Gus KelleySouthtown Vinyl is an upcoming record and turntable store at 1010 S. Flores St. providing San Antonio vinyl enthusiasts with a fresh take on collecting and appreciating vinyl records.
The store offers a wide variety of music on vinyl including: classic rock, alternative, rap, movie soundtracks, and maybe even an obscure gem you’re looking for. Southtown Vinyl not only sells records, but also the hottest turntables on the market. I was pretty jealous walking through the store seeing the sleek variety of record players they had on display. My son, Jude, meanwhile was fidgeting with a modular system they had set up in the store where you can tweak with frequencies and sounds to create a musical beat.
I myself have been collecting vinyl for a little over six years. It’s refreshing to see the comeback of vinyl and the growing community here in San Antonio. Something about flipping through records gives more meaning to purchasing music. It’s a piece of art. The artwork is showcased more on the 12” jackets and many come with artwork, lyric sheets, and even download card inside so you can listen to the album on your computer or iPhone.
The welcoming shop also provides parts to repair or upgrade your record player. The staff is incredibly friendly and will help you with any questions whether you’re new to the vinyl collecting hobby or a seasoned veteran. They even have Southtown Vinyl slip mats for your record player so you can represent your new favorite record store while spinning some wax for your friends.
